How To Read Your Blackberry MEP With or Without a Cable

There are a few instances where we will ask you to send us your Blackberry’s MEP number. If for example, your unlock code is not available in the carrier’s database, we can calculate your unlock code ourselves using your MEP.

Other times, depending on the Blackberry service you used or where you bought your code, you might end up receiving over 10 unlock codes to try. Your Blackberry will only allow up to 10 attempts (for the most part) to enter in a correct code before it becomes permanently locked.  So by using your MEP we will be able to calculate the one good code you need, eliminating the risk of having to try a bunch of codes and potentially locking your Blackberry permanently.

There are 2 ways you can get the MEP.  Here is the easier method, which is compatible with Windows XP, Windows vista, and Windows 7.

1. Connect the Blackberry to your computer using the original USB cable
2. Download this software:
3. Extract the zip file, and double click FBL.exe
4. Click “Read Blackberry Handset Info”
5. Send us the MEP number.

OR, you can do it this way (takes longer):

The first step is to access to the “Help Me” menu.  To do so, go on the main screen of the phone hold the following keys : ALT CAPS H (at the same time)

Note: For Pearl and other Sure-type phones press and hold the ALT key (Bottom left) and type E A C E, for Storm, hold the BACK arrow, and tap the screen in the following areas: TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT, TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT.

You should be presented with a screen like the one shown below:

Click this link

to load the Blackberry eScreen Keygen. A new window will appear. Type the PIN, App Version and Uptime in the form as shown below.

Press “Get my Key” and the Calculator will generate a code:

Now simply type the KEY directly on to that screen. Nothing will appear when typing. For numbers hold the ALT key when typing. Now you should be in the engineers menu – if you are not please try again ensuring the data you entered is EXACTLY as displayed. If you close the screen ensure you change the Uptime on the form. Navigate to ‘OS Engineering Screens‘ as shown below:

Now scroll down to ‘Device Info’  and then scroll down until you see MEP-XXXXX-XXX’ as shown below:

That’s your MEP! Please send it to us.
